    The Coquitlam Sand & Gravel Site Superintendent is a 2-year contract term with potential employment opportunity within Lafarge after it. This role ensures the site reclamation and closure completed safely, on time, within budget and compliance with mining and environmental standards.


    Health and Safety:

    • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas. Promotes a positive safety culture through leadership by example.
    • Ensure strict compliance with all health and safety rules and country regulations
    • Ensure the Contactor Safety Management program is strictly followed for all contractors are active in Avetta, including prequalification, monitoring, documenting and reviewing contractor safety.


    Financial Management:

    • Responsible for the site budget and monitoring results in order to meet the budgets
    • Rigorously control the cost and consistently look for cost optimization and reduction
    • Provide regular site closure progress and financial update to senior management
    • Ensure all SAP System reporting, coding and approvals are completed accurately and on time based on the processes and procedures


    Operations Management

    • Plan the reclamation activities and manage all daily tasks on the site
    • Organize and oversee the management of consultants and subcontractors. Complete necessary correspondence with consultants and subcontractors
    • Effectively manage the contracts and change orders
    • Facilitate required site meetings and record minutes
    • Troubleshoot and resolve concerns regarding constructability with project team
    • Review and analysis as-built documents based on survey data and information provided on drawings
    • Keep track of drawing revisions and ensure the site crews and sub-trades have the most current drawings
    • Prepare regular job report and quality report
    • Establish, update and monitor a document repository to hold all necessary information related to the project


    People Management:

    • Provide leadership for employees by motivating, influencing and guidance
    • Manage Lafarge hourly unionized staff, effectively plan the workforce arrangement, sign off on payroll and employee scheduling


    Environment, Land & Community Relations:

    • Ensure strict compliance to all environmental regulations
    • Monitor site operations with a focus on reducing impacts on the surrounding area and stakeholders
    • Implement environmental standards, recording and reporting to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact. Communicate with Lafarge Environmental group on any environmental incidents



    • Direct Reports: 8 Hourly Unionize Employees, 1 Salary Non Unionized Plant Administrator
    • 1 Non-operating pit
    • Relationships: Working relationships with contractors, consultants and the public. Internally works with all departments which are directly or indirectly involved with the project


    Specific Accountabilities

    • Reclamation planning and execution
    • Lead daily execution of site closure plan, reclamation and site staff duties.
    • Review project contract documents organize crews, materials; plan, organize and schedule work and determine cost effectiveness; lay out traffic control plans with contractors
    • Throughout project execution, attend job progress meetings to ensure compliance to contract specifications submitted scheduling and quality standards.
    • Supervise subcontractor activities and coordinate activities between consultants and subcontractors



    • Degree in Engineering, Diploma from Technical Institute in Engineering, or
    • Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.SC) in Civil Engineering
    • Preference will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience


    Experience and Skill Set:

    • Strong safety mindset and experience in safety management
    • Highly motivated with strong planning and execution capability
    • Good financial knowledge with proven records in effective cost management
    • Strong contractor management experience
    • Excellent negotiation skills and change management skills
    • Proven ability to identify problems quickly, make sound judgments, establish and implement solutions
    • Highly effective time management, planning and organization skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and drive tasks to completion in a fixed time-frame and in a pressured environment
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively/convincingly at all levels (including technical and operational) and with all functions
    • Proven operations management and supervisory experience preferred
    • Prior work experience in unionized environment is preferred
    • Experience in construction industry is preferred and solid experience of land reclamation is a plus
    • Good computer skills
