The CP Automation & Process E.I.T. position supports two roles.  1) Assist the Automation & Systems Execution Head in maintaining, configuring and upgrading automation systems which monitor and control plant equipment. 2) Assist the Process department to resolve quality and production related issues. This roles requires in-plant equipment monitoring, data analysis, and maintaining a close working relationship with quality and production personnel.



  • Update the inventory database for control system components
  • Update the control systems progression plant focusing on; end or life hardware/software, security, user account management, and servers.
  • Support the implementation of High Level Control (HLC), Technical Information System, firewall, and enhancement of the safe zone (DMZ)
  • Monitor the performance and reliability of control system components.
  • Active member of teams which investigates shortterm and chronic process, production and maintenance problems.
  • Provides automation and automation solutions to support plant daily activities and short term projects
  • Backup configuration and database files
  • Provide day-to-day IT support for business computers and systems


  • Analyze data from control system, data historian, quality, and interview employees to resolve day-to-day production and quality incidents
  • Participate with team to measure process variables (pressure, temperature, flow, weight, etc) during process audits

Electrical and other departments:

  • Develop wiring drawings for new installations and modifications to existing equipment
  • Research, recommend, configure, and troubleshoot instrumentation and control devices
  • Maintain electrical drawings and database


  • Become a key member of the electrical and automation portion for the construction and implementation team for the new Alternate Fuel
  • Take ownership of the Automation and Electrical portion of plant projects


  • Must be proactive to safety standards
  • Maintain and keep abreast of Group’s Health and Safety Standards and demonstrate these in day to day activities


  • Participate in the budgeting for Automation & Systems maintenance, upgrades and projects
  • SAP application for work orders and purchasing


  • Ability to take initiative based on sound problem solving skills
  • Ability to lead with influence, remain flexible and deal with human and technical adverse situations.
  • Ability to conduct electrical tests.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. 
  • Familiar with electrical blueprints, diagrams and codes.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Control systems and network configurations
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, actuators, motor controls, and VFDs
  • Good communicator (both oral & written).
  • Good interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant personnel.
  • Highly motivated with ability to work alone and in a team environment (co-workers, corporate, suppliers, contractors, etc.)
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving organizational and personal goals.
  • Well organized and systematic.
  • Willing to travel to other facilities in North America for training and support

Educational Requirement:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree preferably in Electrical Engineering, or
  • BCIT's Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology program

Physical Demands:

  • Remain productive while working for extended periods of time in environments where there is continuous noise, hot, cold, dust, vibration, etc. Normal cement plant environment.
  • Remain productive in an office environment with frequent interruptions, loud discussions, two-way radio discussions, high traffic to/from co-workers desk
  • Prolonged sitting or standing for long periods of time
  • Frequently required to sit and talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Walk on uneven surfaces, bend, squat, climb stairs, and sit for extended periods of time
  • Lift and carry 20 pounds frequently, as needed.
