Position Summary:


The object of this position is as follows: - 

  1. To orientate/register all subcontract haulers and ensure the hauling companies and drivers are following all safe work practices and procedures. In this role, you will take responsibility for the education, maintaining of all hauler records, performance, safety and environmental compliance and will assist with developing ongoing efficiencies within our group(s). In addition, the field support manager assumes responsibility for all GPS initiatives
  2. To act as the field liaison manger; i.e. the conduit between sales, dispatch and the customer. In this role you will proactively engage customers to ensure all elements of supply customer service achieve excellence. This will involve regular site visits to both internal and external customers
  3. Supervisory duties as they relate to the hiring and management of the scale operators
  4. Customer account management - as determined by the GCA Commercial Manager the role will carry out sales representative duties for a number of customer accounts and/or market segments. This will involve quotations, follow ups etc. to ensure successful and proactive account management


  • Supervision of hauling companies, including orientation and safety blitzes
  • Supervision of scale staff, including interviewing & selection, managing performance, discipline, in consultation with Customer Service Logistics Manager
  • Train all new scale staff. Set up all necessary testing when applicable
  • Registration yearly - WCB, Insurance requirements, Safety inspections, driver’s license/abstract
  • Carrier profile, Secor/COR and Master Carrier Agreements
  • Conduct Annual Hauler safety orientation classes. Designing and presenting new materials, reviewing all incidents in previous year. 
  • Conduct ongoing reviews with hauling companies to ensure that all paperwork is up to date
  • Promote safety awareness and environmental compliance. Ensure all haulers are instructed in and practice, safety and environmental procedures and safe work practices and recommendations required to do their jobs in a safe and cost effective manner.  Be pro-active and investigate all safety and environmental incidents and report accordingly
  • Attend tailgates and safety meetings and check scale inspections, follow up as needed
  • Attend pre-job meetings and preview and analyze job site requirements. Perform pre-job inspections, looking for accessibility, delivery problems, truck configurations, and safety concerns as required by dispatch and/or sales.
  • Assist in promoting positive customer & public relations by investigating all hauler related complaints from the public, customers and staff. Complete all necessary reports, make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Track and monitor all current training programs, revise and modify as required; including all aspects of IVMS and WIG
  • Understand DOT requirements, work closely with DOT to support Alberta legislation on gravel hauling
  • Understand all legal GVW requirements and truck configurations
  • Commercial Excellence - Understand customers, products, and business requirements. Establish effective relationships, based on quality products, services and convenience
  • Lead the sales process for customers/segments as determined by the commercial strategy
  • Identify and understand current and unmet needs of a customer and translate into a sales opportunity
  • Participate in formulation of sales and marketing strategies utilizing proper configurations to maximize cost effectiveness.

Relationships With Other Jobs:


  • Reports to the Commercial Manager of Aggregates, with dotted line responsibility to the CSLM and Asphalt Sales Manager
  • Responsible for the daily management of scale personnel, including hiring and performance
  • Work closely with dispatch group for job requirements, truck types
  • Work closely with the sales teams
  • Work closely with plants operators, foremen and internal groups
