Overview

The primary objective of this position is to provide support to the project management/estimating team and coordinate daily construction activities on various projects in the market.

Responsibilities

Health and Safety

  • Adheres and follows Lafarge’s safety and environmental policies. Includes but is not limited to hazards identification, assessment and control, fundamental standards, H&S policies and rules, and Lafarge See Something / Do Something. 

Contract Administration

  • Verify contract documents and blueprints for accuracy and project materials.
  • Job set-up for all projects estimated and awarded to Lafarge by the incumbent, including credit approval, bonding, insurance, W.C.B. clearance, schedules, pre-construction meetings, subcontract agreements, purchase orders, as well as internal job setup for operations and accounting 

Project Management

  • Project management of all contracts either awarded or assigned to the incumbent including attending site meetings, identifying and pricing work extra to the contract, coordinating and scheduling the project with the customer, invoicing, collections, and resolving any disputes involving the customer and any other third parties.
  • Verify job site quantities.
  • Manage subcontractors, outline expectations, scheduling information and track productions.
  • Monitor project costs and financial reports. Provide feedback to operations and estimating departments. 

Construction Techniques

  • Basic understanding of construction materials (concrete, gravel, asphalt) and construction techniques for placing materials;
  • Introduction to understanding yields
  • Basic understanding of construction equipment types, basic understanding of work scope and process (hand or machine) 

Technical Estimating

  • Preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates based on efficient construction practices, and using the most competitive and reliable subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Preparing final bid, complete with mark-up based on market conditions, Lafarge policy and in conjunction with the Estimating Manager and/or the General Manager. 

Business Knowledge

  • Monitoring of the construction market and identifying suitable projects which Lafarge would be interested in bidding 

Sales and Customer Orientation

  • Direct liaison with customers, consultants and owners. Ensure that client satisfaction has been achieved.

Qualifications

Educational Background:

A diploma or degree in Civil Engineering is preferred or equivalent experience. A combination of educational background along with skills / experience will be considered.      

Experience:

  • Estimating experience preferred, project management and field supervisory experience a strong plus.  May be required to participate in on-site management of larger projects. 
  • Computer literate.
  • Understanding of Microsoft excel, Microsoft project, and Bid2Win estimating software
  • Strong understanding of paving, sub-grade, gravel base course, concrete construction and related subcontractor operations.
