Overview

The Pay & Benefits Specialist provides excellent customer service to employees, retirees, and vendors, responding in a professional and timely manner to phone and email inquiries. Responsibilities include the handling of employee level requests and changes as they relate to benefits, HR policies and payroll calculations and activities.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Respond to inquiries on a full range of HR and Payroll topics including benefits, policies, withholding amounts, and other similar employment-related topics
  • Promote the use of Workday and mylafarge-na.com to employees and managers where appropriate
  • End to end processing of leaves of absence, and disability administration
  • Prioritize work to meet deadlines and document all activity related to employee cases
  • Participate on special projects as required
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas
  • Ensure compliance with internal control procedures - communicating problems in operations, unwarranted deviations from established standards, and violations of policy or law.

  • Prompt, courteous and accurate responses to inquiries
  • Timely resolution to escalated and/or sensitive employee issues
  • Daily targets, deadlines and commitments are met
  • Accurate data maintained in systems
  • Successful management of end to end disability leaves with vendor, employee and field HR
  • Service and processing standards are adhered to
  • The safety culture of Lafarge is enhanced by adhering to safety policies, taking ownership for ensuring a safe workplace, ensuring departmental representation on the Health & Safety Committee, and demonstrating support to organizational safety initiatives
  • Internal controls providing reasonable assurance of effective and efficient operations, including actions to prevent and detect fraud and protect Company resources.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Undergraduate or College degree in Business, HR or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Professional HR/Payroll/Benefits designation, or willingness to obtain designation (i.e. CPA, CHRP, SHRP or CEBS)

 

Work Experience:

  • 3+ years experience in Customer Service, Human Resources/Canadian or US Benefit Administration or Canadian or US Payroll
  • Experience working with unionized and retired employees
  • Experience with benefit plan administration
  • Experience with payroll a definite asset

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be bilingual English and French with strong verbal and written skills in both languages - will be tested
  • Customer focused approach with excellent organization, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Good knowledge of HRIS or payroll system(s), and call center software a plus. Knowledge of Workday an asset
  • Good understanding of governmental legislation related to Human Resources and/or Payroll
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment within a work team
