The Construction Technical Sales Specialist has 3 primary functions:

  • Educating and influencing the specifying community regarding Lafarge building solutions, systems and products across Canada
  • Creation of leads to support our sales teams and business growth
  • Ongoing prescriptive selling activities both before and after project award, to assist our businesses in securing additional sales


Health, Safety and Environment:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to a safe work environment. Understands the safety objectives of the organization and supports these efforts in a visible manner
  • Maintain a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner
  • Take into consideration all safety and environmental issues in all marketing related activities and planning

Prescriptive Selling:

  • Work with architects, engineers and other specifiers ahead of projects to educate, supply specifications and influence construction process selection to incorporate the utilization of Lafarge solutions and products.
  • Identify key prescription / specification / design stakeholders, both locally and nationally
  • Define the criteria for segmentation of specifiers / designers (i.e. construction market segment, typical project size, design philosophy, innovation profile etc.)
  • Build strategic plan for prescriptive selling initiatives and execute and track all prescriptive selling activities
  • Identify and pursue projects at the design phase with the goal of influencing specifications and creating leads for sales teams.
  • Work closely with sales to build a pipeline of projects.
  • Moderate discussions and lunch & learns with groups of engineers, architects and other specifiers to educate on Lafarge solutions/products
  • Develop better engineered solutions which incorporate the use of Lafarge’s innovative range of products/solutions with the goal of making things easier for the design community
  • Nurture the innovation pipeline with new ideas based on market trends and specifier needs
  • Understand fully the role of sustainable construction solutions and life cycle analysis
  • Identify opportunities in support of new business growth
  • Develop strong relationships with design community in Canada
  • Provide support and guidance to marketing and sales
  • Provide regular activity reports
  • Other duties as assigned
  • May be required to coach and develop other prescriptive sellers


Relationship with Other Jobs:
  • Reports to the Directors of Marketing, Buildings Segment in Eastern and Western Canada
  • High level of interaction across the Organization but in particular with marketing and sales teams
  • Very high level of interaction with architects, engineers and specifiers



  • Engineering (Civil or Structural), architecture, construction science or related degree
  • PMP certification an asset
  • LEED certification an asset
  • Business degree and / or experience an asset


Experience and Skill Set:

  • 5+  years’ experience, with some experience in structural design, ideally with expertise in different segments (residential, industrial, infrastructure,…) and building systems
  • Project Management experience  in field construction an asset
  • Background in product specifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to build relationships
  • Proven ability to influence
  • Sales or Marketing experience is an asset
  • Well versed or trainable in new software, CAD systems and BIM
  • Strong online skills; prepared to use subscription based specification tools
