    Overview

    This will be for a 6 month contract to start, with a very high probability of going full time permanent.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities (key duties, scope of position, goals, expectations, skill requirements, travel requirements)

     

    End to end payroll processing, including:

    • Hands-on execution of the regular pay cycle for multi-union, multi-frequency, US/Canadian employees (salaried and hourly) in SAP.
    • Off-cycle/on-demand payroll processing and payments.
    • Strong understanding of Payroll accounting, including reconciliation and validation of SAP and ADP postings of payroll to general ledger
    • Prepare SAP payroll reports, conduct analysis of variances and reconciliations
    • Maintain and manage Third Party Sick pay
    • Employment tax analysis and reconciliation prior to transmission to external tax service provider(s)
    • SAP Payroll-related Master Data maintenance.
    • Union reporting

     

    Process documentation, including:

    • Ensure all processes are documented and updated regularly
    • Participate in processes/procedures improvement for the payroll department and Continuous Process Improvement
    • Contribute to internal control and governance enhancements

     

    Relationship management

    • Communicate and resolve issues with external employment tax agencies (US/Canada)
    • Coordinate with other Shared Service teams to deliver seamless service to customers Liaise with other Shared Service teams to investigate and resolve issues
    • Provide excellent customer service support
    • Strong performer and solid contributorto the Payroll team
    • Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety policies and initiatives.

     

    Position Dimensions (ex. communication skills, planning, teamwork, technical knowledge, leadership, initiative)

    • Strong technical and functional knowledge of Canadian/US Payroll concepts and legislation.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team setting and make solid contributions
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Able to work independently, meet deadlines, prioritize work and effectively manage diverse resourcing requirements
    • Strong business analysis skills – Able to analyze internal customer needs and propose/implement viable solutions.

    Qualifications

    • University education or equivalent
    • APA/CPA certification preferred
    • Minimum of three (3) years hands-on payroll processing experience
    • Knowledge of SAP HCM & Payroll an asset
    • Multi-System Payroll experience preferred
    • Proficient in MS Office, with at least intermediate MS Excel
