    Overview

    The primary objective of this role is to achieve efficiencies of operations and other critical revenue objectives for the market area while ensuring our offering promotes service and value for our customers.  This individual attempts to maximize profitability by continuing a strategy to optimize operations, understand customer requirements, optimize pit balance, enhance key customer relationships, and embrace best practice sales and operational management tools and frameworks.  In addition, this role ensures reconciliation and manning processes are undertaken to allow informed decision making by stakeholders.  This role involves periods of after-hours work to ensure operational performance.

    Responsibilities

    Health and Safety:  

    • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas.
    • Participates in job observations and toolbox talks.
    • Maintains documentation on safety drills, exercises, tool box talks and training for Lafarge and Transport Canada reporting requirements.
    • Maintain membership on the Joint Health and Safety Committee.

     

    Customer and Market Focus:

    • Liaises with customer site representatives to facilitate schedules and marine activities. Communicates loading and material movement to all stakeholders.
    • Provide quotations for specialized marine based transportation.
    • Continuously develops offerings to differentiate Lafarge as the supplier of choice.
    • Assists team in building solid relationships with key existing and potential customers.
    • Work closely with other relevant Lafarge product lines (i.e. ready mix, asphalt and paving) to ensure there is a consistent and effective offering to the customer and all potential synergies are maximized.
    • Ensure market intelligence is effectively collected, analyzed and stored.

     

    Operations:

    • Maintains a live day to day Marine operations and work schedule to optimize costs, asset utilization and customer needs.
    • Coordinate assists and shifts through external suppliers and maintain accurate records for cost management purposes.
    • Maintain and analyse KPI information to drive operational efficiency.
    • Provide written orders to crews.
    • Monitor grub cost expenditure and undertake reviews with suppliers to optimize grub costs.
    • Work with the Maintenance group to schedule equipment maintenance in an efficient and cost effective manner.
    • Be familiar with daily administration functions including payroll, AR/AP.
    • Review tug log reports and enter information into KPI and operations tracking tools.
    • Complete Customs declarations.
    • Complete payroll processes, including monitoring lay day dispositions.
    • Support procurement and maintenance activities.

     

    Finance

    • Completes accurate monthly sales forecasts for the management team.
    • Control daily operating costs and review and analyze monthly revenue and expenses.
    • Review shift, assist, rental invoices for accuracy.
    • Maintain and analyze job cost database.
    • Establish costs for new business opportunities.

     

    Personnel:

    • Plan crew schedules to meet operational and unionized constraints, providing advice on layoffs to Management.
    • Maintains certification records for all personnel.
    • Facilitates the processing of HR documentation for all Marine hourly employees.
    • Review overtime submissions and provide advice to management on trends or issues.
    • Provide advice to crew on HR processes.

     

    Dimensions:
    • Direct Reports: Nil
    • Indirect Reports: Nil
    • Relationships: Works closely with all Lafarge GVA divisions for material delivery. Works with industry providers to optimize scheduling and costs. Works with boat crews on all operational and HR issues.
    • Volumes: 4.0-4.5 MTPY
    • Three Class II voyage tugs, 11 flat deck barges, 1 auto offloading barge, depot and barge conveyors, four ramp berths, four deport berths, marine division workshop facilities.

    Qualifications

    Education: 

    • Post Secondary diploma in a related field (Business or Logistics) or the equivalent of education and experience

     

    Experience and Skill Set: 

    • Minimum of 3 –5 years of Marine/Aggregate logistics.
    • Basic supervisory experience.
    • Knowledgeable of land and marine based operations.
    • Strong communication (written, verbal, and listening skills) and interpersonal skills.
    • Proven problem solving and analytical skills in a high paced environment.
    • Ability to develop existing customer base.
    • Proficiency with computer applications (Microsoft, google business suite)
    • Good attention to detail
    • Self-motivated, strong team player
    • Leadership, Interpersonal and strong communication skills make you an ideal candidate.
    • High capacity of working under pressure and stress
    • Knowledgeable about aggregate production to include materials, aggregate plants, and loading is helpful, but not required.
