The lead hand is the captain of the on-site team and helps lead daily production, maintenance, and shipping activities from the front line. The incumbent demonstrates the utmost commitment to health and safety and pushes others to do the same. As well, the lead hand helps to foster a cohesive team atmosphere focused on excellence in all aspects of plant and business performance.

Responsibilities

• Health and Safety Culture: Promote safety culture through engagement with employees and contractors. Implement, administer, and promote local and regional health and safety initiatives and policies to ensure that sites meet or exceeds all Lafarge and regulatory guidelines
• People Management: Lead and coach site personnel as required, ensuring focus on health and safety and operational efficiency
• Operations Management: Drive day-to-day operations performance

Relationships with other functions

• Reports to Plant Foreman
• Leads site operations employees, contractors, suppliers, and visitors

• Promote and increase quality of positional, pre-job, and high-risk task risk assessments
• Promote and increase quality of Working-at-Heights, Energy Isolation, and Confined Space processes
• Promote focus on sustainable housekeeping process and improve results
• Promote focus on environmental processes and best practices improve results
• Promote focus on land management processes and best practices improve results
• People Management
• Promote and increase employee engagement through active coaching and feedback on team performance
• Ensure development of required employee and team skill sets
• Performance
• Promote and increase production, maintenance, and shipping effectiveness
• Assist in Maintenance Module administration and other operational programs.

Education & Work Experience:

• Canadian secondary school diploma or equivalent
• Industrial plant operation experience an asset
• Heavy mobile equipment operation experience an asset

Knowledge & Skills:

• First aid, WHMIS, Surface Miner training, confined space training, working-at-heights training
• Specific mobile equipment training (wheel loader, skid steer, elevated work platform, tele-handler)
• Welding / fabrication
• Computer literacy an asset
• Physical and mental ability to perform the required duties of the position
