    Lafarge Leadership Development Program (LLDP)


    The Lafarge Leadership Development Program offers qualified individuals an opportunity to work through developmental roles over a term of 18-24 months. The positions are designed to maximize your personal and professional learning and development. Each LLDP path is different, and custom designed for you!


    Currently, we are looking for recent graduates who seek the challenge of a hands-on work environment that will provide industry knowledge and skills to drive your career path forward. We are looking for individuals who are interested in the areas of development, leadership and management of operational functions and performance throughout Eastern Canada.


    To be considered for an LLDP role, qualified candidates must have a College/University degree, be willing to relocate within eastern Canada, be analytical, entrepreneurial and have highly developed communication skills. All of this must be coupled with a strong drive to gain business knowledge and a willingness to experience a variety of positions within the organization. 



    Position Summary:

    • The main objective of the Production Engineer is to assist the Production Manager in his functions. He/she will assist in supervising job sites during major shutdowns and will help to coordinate the daily site's production activities. During vacation period, he/she will act as a replacement for Coordinators or Supervisors who are away (quarry, yard, shipping). 



    On a daily basis, the Production Engineer must assist the Production Manager to:

    • serve as a role model in the areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors. 
    • Act as Supervisor, if necessary.
    • optimize the use of alternative raw materials in the composition of the raw meal by additions at the pre-homogenization and to the raw mills.
    • Ensure the optimization of the use of alternative raw materials in the raw meal by additions at the pre-homogenization and to the raw mills.
    • Directly supervise all contractors for projects that are assigned to them and ensure that they carry out the work in accordance to the specifications in a safe manner and within approved budgets.
    • Close work orders under his responsibility after their completion, and record history for the equipment included in these work orders.
    • See to the orderly conduct and discipline of his direct reports and to applying the terms and conditions of the collective agreement.
    • Verify his employees’ time sheet and see to the closing of the pay period in the system.
    • Support the carrying out of refractory work and others during the kiln’s annual shutdown.
    • Ensure that the plant and business unit meet their objectives.

    Relationships with Others’ Jobs:

    The Production Engineer reports to the Production Manager, but is in constant interaction with the Quarry and Mobile Equipment Coordinators and Supervisors.



    Plant Annual Capacity:                 1,000,000 mt

    Department Annual Budget:       $50,000,000

    Total Number of Employees in the Department:         13 Hourly Employees

    Specific Responsibilities:

    • Ensure compliance with production commitments.
    • Ensure compliance of the quality of the product.
    • Ensure compliance with the cost commitments (budget and forecast).
    • Ensure compliance with the operations permits (earth).
    • Ensure that an excellent safety performance is achieved.
    • Ensure achievement of objectives related to annual training and of development under his care.
    • Apply the collective agreement between Lafarge and the Syndicat des Métallos, local section 6658.


    You must be a recent university or college graduate within the last 2 years OR you will be completing your degree/diploma May 2018.



    Education and Work Experience:


    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering
    • 2 to 5 years’ experience in a similar function
    • Good communication and team work skills.
    • Good relationship building skills
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills
    • Good knowledge of computers and various software
    • Excellent time management skills
    • Good follow-up skills
    • Autonomous
    • Experience in the cement industry (an asset)
