    Overview

    The Precast Design Engineer is responsible for providing structural designs and leading the engineering staff towards successful precast projects under supervision of the Engineering Manager.  This includes the design, construction and installation of precast structures and components.   He/she will also provide engineering and design input for new and upcoming projects and for estimating purposes.  Further, he/she will liaise with project managers and clients to promote successful Precast Solutions.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide structural design of precast structures and elements
    • Design of concrete and steel connections
    • Carry our design calculations
    • Provide engineering design information to draft person
    • Review and issue construction drawings
    • Provide necessary plant engineering, including facility additions, plant equipment, lifting and handling devices (Safe Work Load Ratings), etc.
    • Coordinates with project managers, draft person, quality control personnel, plant production and erection workers on project details, scheduling, and problem resolution
    • Problem solving for issues that arise in the production facility and on job sites
    • Attend client project meetings and provide engineering input
    • Carryout plant and site inspections for quality assurance
    • Provide preliminary designs for budgets/estimates

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 5 years experience in precast concrete design
    • Knowledge of concrete and aggregates
    • Strong leadership skills
    • Good communication with clients and trades
    • Registered or eligible for registration with The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
