As part of the Lafarge Greater Vancouver Area Ready Mix operation, the Distribution Shipper (Dispatcher) is a logistical expert able to monitor and manage the delivery of 100+ perishable daily orders across the western part of the Lower Mainland (Vancouver to Langley). In addition, he/she is the primary point of contact for all ready-mix truck drivers and plant operators throughout the day. The role is based in our Central Surrey logistics center.

Though part of an enthusiastic team collectively responsible for ensuring concrete orders are delivered on time to customers, the work environment is fast paced and requires the ability to juggle ever changing priorities and customer needs.

The successful candidate must possess a strong team-centric attitude, an exceptional capacity for digesting changing information quickly, a logistical “intuition”and a high-level of comfort with computers and technology to be successful in this role.

Full Time opportunities are available for the right candidate.

Though days vary, the specifics are consistent. The successful candidate is responsible for the timely analysis (including approval, validation, and adjustment as required) of outbound delivery plan suggestions from 3rd party software tools, and the ongoing live monitoring of those plans through to delivery.

Once delivery is complete, logical return-plant recommendation analysis is expected in anticipation of subsequent delivery plans.

As noted, an exceptional capacity for digesting ever changing information quickly is needed: delivery data and driver updates are presented across 4 monitors, several applications, and live broadcast radios. And though delivery plan suggestions are supplied, a thorough understanding of lower mainland geography supported by a strong logistical intuition will be critical in vetting suggestions.

      • Assist field staff (drivers and plant personnel) with safety concerns by coaching and escalating field issues with the appropriate person (internally and/or externally)
      • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas

    1. Customer Care – a smaller part of the role, but expected
      • Assist Customer Care Agents in answering inbound customer phone calls
      • Enter, change, and adjust customer orders within the Command Concrete program (training provided)
      • Continually monitor Command Concrete and make outbound customer calls when required to potential delays

    1. Shipping – the majority of the role
      • Once trained and fluent in distribution tools and processes, contribute to dispatching 85+ trucks across 100+ orders while ensuring on-time delivery targets are maintained
      • Monitor truck statuses, addressing issues as required
      • Maintain ongoing communication with a unionized driver pool (via text and voice technologies)
      • Analyze and rationalize software recommendations for outbound and return plans
      • Task drivers to various “non-productive” statuses (i.e. breaks, meetings, etc) to ensure asset availability is accurately reflected in the software
      • Advise Customer Care Agents and/or customers of potential issues with their delivery plan
      • Quickly and efficiently navigate several proprietary and 3rd party applications, adjusting parameters as needed to create optimal delivery plans based on changing conditions in the field
