    The Operations Manager is responsible for the leadership, development & management of the operational functions for Fort McMurray TBG Contracting.  The Operations Manager will ensure adequate staffing and oversee safe production to enable plant productivity and maintenance in an efficient manner, while delivering quality products to clients.  The Operations Manager will be the liaison to all support service groups; Environment, Land, Manufacturing, Human Resources & Safety.  The primary focus will be on safety and the optimizing available reserves and capital employed while maximizing productivity at the lowest cost of production.   


    Health and Safety:  

    • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas. Promote a positive safety culture through leadership by example.
    • Ensure strict compliance with all health and safety rules and country regulations.
    • Implementation and management of all safety initiatives.
    • Maintain safety processes and procedures up to date.

    Financial Management: 

    • Promote a culture of performance and exceeding expected results.
    • Drive and track financial performance via annual operations budgets and monthly operations forecast. Reviewing costs on a month end review, ensure all costs are accounted for and are accurate.
      • Participate in monthly inventory, sales & production planning.
      • Effectively develop goals and objectives to implement actions, track performance and continuously look for opportunities for improvement.
    • Support supply chain with balancing inventory and sales needs to manage and minimize working capital impact.

    Customer Focus:

    • Work with all business units to drive customer retention and attraction.
    • Drive quality for customer retention.
    • Seek opportunities to meet and exceed customer expectations.
    • Ensure a quality product within specifications and timely delivery to clients, actively works to resolve any issues.

    Operations Management: 

    • Work closely with general foremen to develop best practices, processes and to ensure plant activities are optimized and costs are best in class.
    • Actively involved on a daily basis with on site operations.
    • Implement and follow best practices for maintenance, production and shipping processes and strategies to achieve target key performance indicators (KPI).
    • Effectively use Lafarge resources and programs to drive operational excellence and develop TBG Contracting Aggregates specific resources as needed.

    Environment, Land & Community Relations: 

    • Run site operations in a way to have minimal negative impact on the surrounding environment and communities.
    • Implement and manage operational standards to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact.
    • Work with local regulatory bodies to comply with bylaws.

    People Management:

    • Provide leadership for operations staff located at multiple sites by working closely with Foremen and being on site regularly.
    • Follow Lafarge HR business cycle (Annual performance review, Annual Objective setting, Individual Development Plans, Mid-Year Reviews, Career & Succession Planning.)
    • Focus on succession planning and assuring a strong depth within the team.
    • Participate in the development of emerging leaders to be ready to move into more responsible roles.

    Specific  Accountabilities:

    • Mine planning.
    • Effectively drive and seek cost improvement opportunities.
    • Proactively manage the warranty and maintenance of all equipment.
    • Annual operations budget & monthly operations forecast.
    • Innovation and continuous improvement to plant performance.
    • Compliance with Safety, Land and Environment Audits.
    • Development of succession ready employees.


    • Reports to General Manager, Northern Alberta - GEA.
    • Direct Reports – 5 General Foreman
    • 5.0+ Million tones of production
    • Effective utilize $12 Million in Assets
    • Supervision of Personnel
    • Management of $10+ Million in costs





    • Undergraduate degree preferred in construction management, engineering, or business

    Experience and Skill Set:

    • 10 years of proven operations management and supervisory experience preferred
    • Good knowledge of aggregate industry
    • Proven team leadership in a multi-site operation
    • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
    • Must be able to analyze financial statements and make recommendations
    • Strong communication, negotiation and change management skills
    • Prior work experience in unionized environment
    • Ability to foster and grow a strong safety culture
    • High energy positive leader with ability to influence high performing teams
