    Overview

    Lafarge is recruiting an Automation Specialist for our Cement Plant located in Exshaw Alberta.

    This position reports to the Senior Automation Specialist and works in coordination with the Electrical Maintenance and Process teams.

    Responsibilities

     

     Safety:

     

    • Must be a safety leader
    • Ensure safe practices by coworkers, employees and contractors in all areas of work in his or her area of respoonsibility
    • Compliance with all safety policies, procedures and applicable laws
    • Report on accidents / incidents assuring follow up as per the Exshaw procedure 

     

    Personnel

    • Supervise / manage employees and contractors (when required) - including:
    • Ensuring compliance with all policies, procedures and applicable laws - e.g. Collective Agreement, O.T., payroll, absenteeism, meals, etc.
    • Managing Employee and Contractor performance
    • Employee Development through being a mentor/coach
    • Assist in the development of daily and weekly electrical work schedules, ensuring work is completed in a timely manner as per plant priorities.
    • Follow-up on completed work to ensure equipment operability and job site cleanliness.
    • Completeness and accuracy of equipment history records.
    • Communication with pertinent operations departments.
    • Deal with and find resolution to equipment related problems in the plant.

     

     

    Environmental:

    • Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, license requirements and applicable laws; e.g. opacity incident reporting, water effluent sampling, and waste disposal.
    • Ensure compliance with Analyzer and CEMS inspections, testing and reporting as required by the plant’s permitting authorities.

     

     

    Community:

    • Participate, support and respect Plant / Community initiatives e.g. Tours, Open Houses, etc.
    • Handle complaints in a professional and proactive manner

     

    Quality:

    • Ensuring compliance with all policies, procedures and standards (ASTM, CSA, MQO, internal targets and limits).
    • Example of policies can be found in the quality assurance manual.
    • Example of procedures includes lock-out/release procedure, milling and transferring procedure, cement allocation procedure, etc.

     

    Technical Skills:

    • Must be proficient in SAP.
    • Knowledge of modern safety techniques.
    • Knowledge of RCA.
    • Strong management skills.
    • Predictive and proactive maintenance methods and procedures.
    • Proven ability to solve technical problems in a timely manner.

    Qualifications

    Educational Requirements

    • Graduate of Electrical Engineering / Engineering Technologist program.

     

    Automation Credentials

    • Previous automation experience in an industrial facility considered an asset
    • Exposure to multiple PLC platforms. Preference given to candidates with Schneider (Modicon) PLC experience.
    • Ability to program in Function Block Diagrams
    • Experience programming and maintaining SCADA systems.  iFIX and Vijeo Citec experience preferred.
    • Strong programming skills (Visual Studio & Visual Studio.NET)
    • Industrial Networking knowledge, multiple field bus exposure (DeviceNET, Profibus, RIO etc), preference given to Industrial Ethernet Networking.
    • Ability to read and interpret P&ID diagrams
    • Previous exposure to PID control loops, design and maintenance (tuning).
    • A working knowledge of different measurement instruments (flow, pressure, temperature level etc).
    • Knowledge of continuous weighing systems considered an asset.

     

    Electrical Credentials

    • Basic practical electrical knowledge (motor starters, contactors, fuses, overloads, field push buttons, disconnects, transformers, breakers etc).
    • Basic understanding of the CEC.
    • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
    • VFD and DC Drive control.
    • Knowledge of Intelligent Motor Control Centers
    • Experience with motor and substation protection relays considered an asset (GE UR and Multilin series preferred).
    • AutoCAD – ability to produce and maintain electrical drawings.
    • Ability to supervise a group of hourly electricians as required.
    • Ability to take on after-hours on-call.
    • Previous experience working as part of an electrical crew considered an asset.
