    Overview

    To ensure the consistent quality of products manufactured in the Greater Calgary Pipe Business Unit.

     

    STRUCTURE:

     

    Reports directly to the Greater Calgary Pipe Plant Design and Marketing Engineer. Works with the Operations Manager, Production Foremen, Sales Manager, Sales and Technical group.

    Responsibilities

    Quality Control Performance:

    • Advise production of all irregularities and report regularity of all test results.
    • Monitor and report on daily production to ensure quality is met including reinforcement drawing pre and post pour on 5A P/B and 1-S manhole checks and pipe production.
    • Ensure that all products are labeled correctly and clearly.
    • Organize and monitor quality control team (which may consist of plant employees) to ensure that all tests are being performed according to plant and industry standards.
    • Have a working knowledge of all products and materials used in the making of all products.
    • Creating and updating a detailed QC Manual/Job aid.
    • Review drawings before production and provide comments (in conjunction with foremen).
    • Managing all pre/post checks for openings.
    • Executing and documenting QC checklist/as-built drawings for all products.
    • Updating cull sheet and meet the target.
    • Contributing to product improvement, development, and new trials.
    • Contributing to cost control maintaining the quality.
    • Contributing to Safety.

    Incoming Materials:

    • Maintain and obtain monthly supplier reports to ensure standards are being met.
    • Monitor and record the inspection of all purchased materials as they are received and track raw material inventory. (i.e. cement, fly ash, aggregates, admixtures, reinforcing, Stormceptor/Jellyfish disks, etc.).

     

    Mix Design:

    • Responsible for evaluation of concrete mix design for wet and dry cast products, determining the proper ready mix, and upgrading mix design.

     

    Certification and Testing:

    • Ensure that the Pipe Plant is producing material according to current specifications.
    • Verify sieve analysis report on aggregate samples to confirm to ASTM and CSA standards.
    • Verify and record specification and documents of the materials used in concrete products
    • Perform daily testing of fresh and hardened concrete and record all related information.
    • Maintain Plant Certification accreditation (PPP, and others when applicable)
    • Perform and record physical testing of concrete pipe (i.e. Hydrostatic and D-Load).
    • Co-ordinate procedure and documentation of all quality assurance testing and inspection of all phases of production and raw materials.
    • Ensure that required reports are sent to both municipal and certification officials.

     

    Equipment and System:

    • Ensure and monitor cleanliness of mixer, aggregate storage, mixer room, etc.
    • Monitor and assist computerized batching system to ensure that the proper data entry is input and that the system is operational (including system calibration).
    • Inspection of incoming material
    • Perform annual quality control on pallets and headers.

     

    People and Culture:

    • Providing QA/QC training for plant foremen and QC staff, and promote a quality culture within plant.
    • Provide technical assistance for plant, customers and city inspectors.

    Job Site Support:

    • Perform STC/JF/StormTrap post installation inspection when required.
    • Quality control assistance on job sites.

     

    SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

     

    • Must be a team player with excellent organizational and leadership skills.
    • Self-starter.
    • Maintain good customer relations (quality control, technical support and solutions).

    Qualifications

    • Civil Engineering Technologist or minimum 5 years’ experience as a Construction or Manufacturing Foreman
    • Computer Skills (MS Office and Dispatching Software).
    • Experience with and understanding of construction industry.
    • ACI Level 1 Certification would be an asset.
    • Plant Certification Qualified would be an asset.
