    Lafarge Leadership Development Program (LLDP)

     

    The Lafarge Leadership Development Program offers qualified individuals an opportunity to work through developmental roles over a term of 18-24 months. The positions are designed to maximize your personal and professional learning and development. Each LLDP path is different, and custom designed for you!

     

    Currently, we are looking for recent graduates who seek the challenge of a hands-on work environment that will provide industry knowledge and skills to drive your career path forward. We are looking for individuals who are interested in the areas of development, leadership and management of operational functions and performance throughout Eastern Canada.

     

    To be considered for an LLDP role, qualified candidates must have a College/University degree, be willing to relocate within eastern Canada, be analytical, entrepreneurial and have highly developed communication skills. All of this must be coupled with a strong drive to gain business knowledge and a willingness to experience a variety of positions within the organization. 

     

    Responsibilities

    Objective:

     

    The Maintenance Engineer’s, primary objective is to deliver a high level of equipment reliability and availability through the introduction and development of maintenance prevention processes and engineering practices. Implement new concepts and proven tools that will deliver higher reliability and performance. Develop and maintain standardized KPIs to evaluate the plant’s performance and recommend improvements. Improve the uptime and productive capacity of critical equipment using formalized problem-solving techniques. In addition, the Maintenance Engineer will provide technical mechanical assistance for the Plant team. When required, the Maintenance Engineer will assume the responsibilities of a Maintenance Supervisor and lead mechanical repair staff. Furthermore, the incumbent will define and implement capital projects within the capital budget plan in order to improve the plant’s operation and keep the Bath plant in a long-term competitive position.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • To serve as a role model in the areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.
    • Assist in developing, recommending and managing process & equipment reliability programs (Root cause failure analysis/ Mean Time Between Failure)
    • Perform studies to ensure the overall reliability and capacity of the mills through product quality standards, equipment specific specifications and requirements compliance.
    • Work with supervisors of maintenance (mechanical and electrical) to ensure optimal performance and efficiency of maintenance activities (mechanical & electrical)
    • Identify and manage asset reliability/ risks that could adversely affect business operations
    • Plan and Execute Reliability Improvement Projects specifically intended to support Production to incrementally improve plant performance.
    • Review engineering specifications/drawings and propose design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements
    • Monitor equipment performance and evaluate equipment history and failure trends to determine sources of poor component performance
    • Evaluate equipment failure modes and utilize engineering experience and training to develop solutions for eliminating/mitigating potential failure(s)
    • Provide or obtain technical expertise to assist the production, process, and maintenance departments in the optimization of equipment.
    • The Maintenance Engineer with the input of plant personnel will assist in planning and implementing capital projects with minimum supervision.
    • Interface with vendors, contractors, and engineering firms on proposal for design and execution of projects in all the technical aspects, bearing in mind the safety aspects.
    • Coordinate the system start-up and commissioning along with the plant people; assists in the resolution of any contract disputes; organize proper training when required.
    • Contribute to maintaining and updating the long-term plan, which provides the medium to long term direction for the plant; maintain a continual awareness of project status and cost.
    • Perform a contributing role in developing spare parts lists; coordinate development of specifications for mechanical and electrical disciplines.

    Relationship with other jobs:

    • Works closely with the maintenance team and more specifically with the electrical maintenance individual associated with the active projects.
    • Works closely with the Process / System / Production teams.

    Specific Accountabilities:

    • Provide a safe working environment for all employees and contractors.
    • Ensure that projects comply with all legislated regulations and corporate policies.
    • Successfully complete projects on time and within budget, with effective use of resources.
    • Ensure productivity, housekeeping and quality of work standards are maintained on all projects.
    • Aim to achieve targeted reliability on all major equipment through recommendations and the installation new equipment.

    Qualifications

    • A mechanical engineering degree or technical college diploma/degree or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience
    • Familiarized with automated drafting software (ex.: Autocad)
    • Knowledge of project management procedures, cost control, and scheduling.
    • Ability to work on many tasks at the same time while keeping excellent organizational skills.
    • Good leadership ability and interpersonal skills.
    • Knowledge of the cement technology and manufacturing is an asset.
