    Lafarge Leadership Development Program (LLDP)


    The Lafarge Leadership Development Program offers qualified individuals an opportunity to work through developmental roles over a term of 18-24 months.     Currently, we are looking for recent graduates who seek the challenge of a hands-on work environment that will provide industry knowledge and skills to drive your career path forward. We are looking for individuals who are interested in the areas of development, leadership and management of operational functions and performance throughout Eastern Canada.


    To be considered for an LLDP role, qualified candidates must have a College/University degree, be willing to relocate within eastern Canada, be analytical, entrepreneurial and have highly developed communication skills. All of this must be coupled with a strong drive to gain business knowledge and a willingness to experience a variety of positions within the organization. 



    Position Summary:


    Process Engineering:  The prime objective is to troubleshoot process-related problems and to ensure continuous optimization of all stages of the cement manufacturing process. In addition, the process engineer works with various other departments to identify and develop long-term improvements as well as working with the technical centers to ensure that the Lafarge technical doctrines are implemented at the plant level.


    Environmental Engineering:  This role will focus on conducting baseline assessments for water flow, water usage, water re-use/recycling, and biodiversity assessments within the operational region.  The intention of the role is to provide recent graduates with the opportunity to gain valuable work place experience in multiple environmental/engineering areas while also assisting Lafarge in implementing and meeting its Canadian 2030 sustainability plan. The 2030 plan is aimed at reducing water consumption, identifying means of enhancing local water availability, and making positive contributions to biodiversity. These are all elements of the move towards sustainability in our industry and the development of clean technology.



    • To serve as a role model in the areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.
    • Be familiar with and support the plant's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System including being aware of any specific duties outlined in the program.
    • In consultation with the Environmental Manager, ensure that all regulatory requirements associated with the carrying out of operational duties are completed as required by the relevant regulation, Certificate, or permit.
    • Ensure that any changes to the plant's equipment or design are reviewed with the Environmental Manager to ensure that any relevant regulatory requirements are identified and met.
    • Conduct duties to ensure that the goals of the Environmental Policy are met
    • Optimize the day to day operations of the cement manufacturing process.
    • Work with operations to complete water flow rate monitoring and schematics
    • Complete water diagrams using drafting software
    • Data Management
    • Prepare recommendations for water re-use or recycling initiatives
    • Preparation of site figures using mapping software
    • Conduct biodiversity assessments using the BIRS (Biodiversity Indicator and Reporting System) methodology
    • Identification of local biodiversity projects and partners
    • Validation of other environmental engineering data and development of estimation factors
    • Provide technical support to various plant personnel.
    • Manage the process equipment inventory.
    • Manage process best practices as they become available to the plant.
    • Continuous monitoring of base line process information using procedures and schedule.
    • Perform process audits as per Lafarge standards.
    • Maintain accurate and complete process records
    • Determine areas for significant process improvements and assist with the implementation of such projects



    • Contribute to the analysis of equipment breakdown and non-optimal running
    • Define and implement improvements to existing process and optimal solutions to process problems
    • Ensure permanent monitoring of key process and operation parameters & data, inspection of stopped equipment and organize process reviews
    • Contribute to new technology /new processes /new product development
    • Keep track of trials, process activities, solutions tested and process inspections
    • Ensure progress in process control loop and automation

    Relationships with Others’ Jobs:

    The Process Engineer reports to the Production Manager. There are no direct reports.


    You must be a recent university or college graduate within the last 2 years OR you will be completing your degree/diploma May 2018.

    Education and Work Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (chemical or mechanical preferred)
    • Complete understanding of cement manufacturing process
    • Understanding and ability to interpret industrial water usage and schematics
    • Familiarity with CAD and ArcGIS
    • Understanding of water flow meters and installation techniques


    Preferred skills:

    • Technical background that includes mass transport and thermodynamics
    • Advanced computer skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
