    Overview

    Lafarge is seeking a Manager of Infrastructure to join our growing Infrastructure Group in Edmonton. The Manager of Infrastructure has direct responsibility and accountability for the safety and operational performance of the operations of the GEA Infrastructure Group across all infrastructure disciplines.  The Manager of Infrastructure plays a key role in executing performance plans, cost savings, KPI targets, safety & environmental policies, manage equipment, and work with staff to ensure projects are completed safely, on budget, with no deficiencies, and to customer satisfaction. 

     

    The Manager of Infrastructure is integral in leading, developing and growing the capability of the GEA Infrastructure organization to increase revenue and capability.  This includes coaching and mentoring direct reports and continually promoting a culture of agility, collaboration, and empowerment (ACE) enabling continuous improvement.

    Responsibilities

    In this role as the senior manager of project operations for the Infrastructure Group, the incumbent will be expected to:

    • Liaise with the General Manager, Operation’s Manager, Safety Manager and the Environmental Manager to stay informed of current and foreseeable issues and provide the necessary advice and support.
    • Undertake design reviews and oversee project management of municipal and transportation projects including site grading, roads and bridges.
    • Analyze available condition rating data pertaining to assets (condition, age and cost) to determine an optimal plan for future operational requirements, renewal and replacement.
    • Take the lead in the development of sustainable financial models for asset life cycle costing under a variety of scenarios.
    • Be responsible for all project financials, including soliciting pricing from suppliers and subcontractors, and acquiring appropriate documentation for the tender / proposal.
    • Be the technical expert in the estimating of infrastructure work, encompassing all disciplines
    • Perform tender reviews and provide contract administration for the successful deliver of projects.
    • Maintain accurate project documentation including work schedules, operating budgets, cost control processes and work procedures.
    • Develop and maintain good working relationships with various clients and stakeholders.
    • Be the company representative and frontline liaison with various regulatory authorities, consultants and contractors.
    • Maintain effective communication with various stakeholders, internal team members, ratepayers and general public to ensure timely flow of information and actions.
    • Complete the annual Marketing Plan to assess market opportunities.
    • Actively monitor projects performance with level of detail to drive execution and tracking.
    • Participate in monthly financial review with team of the P&L and Balance sheet
    • Ensure holdbacks, accounts receivable, and additional financial items are driven to reduce working capital.
    • Ensure the project’s needs and requirements are met in a timely and effective manner.
    • Ensure required field level financial documentation (monthly progresses, quantity sheets, etc) are being submitted accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Direct and lead a diverse team of direct reports.
    • Conduct pre-construction meetings with all pertinent parties.
    • Work with internal PL and Functional teams to monitor project deliverables, market intelligence and strategic positioning.
    • Establish the environment as a priority. Ensures all local and provincial and federal regulations are met or exceeded by following Lafarge best practices and conditions of site permits
    • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas.
    • Promote a positive safety culture through visual leadership.

    Dimensions:
    • Direct Reports: 0-2 Superintendents
    • Indirect Reports: 0-2 Salaried, 1-25 Non Union hourly
    • Relationships: Working relationships with owners, engineers, consultants and the public. Internally works with all departments which are directly or indirectly involved with the project.
    • Project can be located in the Greater Edmonton Area and throughout Alberta

    Qualifications

    Education: 

    • Engineering degree or equivalent from a college or technical school; a minimum of six years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Professional Engineering (P.Eng) Certification preferred

    Experience and Skill Set:

    • Proven ability to manage medium scale infrastructure projects ($10-$100M)
    • Demonstrated ability to understand project teaming agreements and contractor negotiations
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans and specifications, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
    • Ability to effectively present information in writing, and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Computer proficient in word processing and spreadsheet applications
    • Familiarity with SAP and B2W an asset
    • Strong communication, negotiation and change management skills
    • Good knowledge of the infrastructure industry
    • Ability to foster and grow a strong safety culture
    • Independent thinker with a high capacity of working under pressure and stress
