    Overview

    Reporting to the General Manager of Concrete Products, the Commercial Sales Manager has responsibility for sales, marketing, and strategy development in the Greater Edmonton and Northern Alberta market area’s underground construction materials business.  The position will be responsible for managing the sales force and customer portfolio, leading revenue performance, and achieving sales and financial goals while focusing on high quality customer service.  In addition, this role will lead the pricing and commercial strategy for the business. 

     

    The successful candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal/relationship-building, customer service, and leadership skills.  An ability to grasp the technical aspects of the product line is required.

    Responsibilities

    Safety: 

    • Lead the business with the utmost focus on health & safety.
    • Provide visible and felt health & safety leadership.
    • Ensure all aspects of his/her role are executed in a safe manner. 
    • Follow safety guidelines when on construction sites and in Lafarge operations.  

    Customer Account and Marketplace Activities:  

    • Build and establish effective, professional relationships with customers and influencers based on quality interpersonal interactions and technical skills.
    • Identify and understand current and unmet needs for existing and potential customers and translate them into sales opportunities. 
    • Continuously monitor competitor and construction activity, communicate and recommend any necessary actions.
    • Understand existing product specifications, identify and recommend opportunities.
    • Represent Lafarge on industry-related committees & associations.
    • Coordinate closely with other Lafarge product lines to ensure effective customer and market coordination.

    Project Management:     

    • Project manage acquired projects by attending site meetings, identifying and pricing work extra to the contract, coordinating and scheduling the project with the customer, invoicing, collections, and resolving any disputes involving the customer and any other third parties
    • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and sales quotations as required
    • Point of contact between the customer and production staff
    • Provide day-to-day sales and customer service support in the application of concrete pipe or drainage products

    Financial:       

    • Responsible for achieving volume/market share and price/profitability objectives by product and customer/market segment. 
    • Capable of understanding monthly financial statements and making decisions that promote solid financial results.
    • Responsible for credit and accounts receivable management.  Supports collection activities to meet days sales outstanding targets.
    • Responsible for inventory control.  Oversees development and coordination of production plan to meet customer needs and days strict working capital targets.
    • Understand and support operational KPIs.

    Leadership: 

    • Supervise staff whose responsibilities include outside and inside sales and estimating.
    • Lead all aspects of customer service for the business.  Work closely with own team and technical/quality control/operations departments to promote an effective, customer-focused work environment.
    • Oversee professional development of staff to meet business needs and career development goals.

    Strategy: 

    • Assist in the formulation and leads the execution of Greater Edmonton and Northern Alberta Commercial Strategy for Pipe including, market share analysis.
    • Develop and implement appropriate pricing strategy based on market conditions.
    • Lead transition from product offering to solution selling within market place.
    • Focus implementation with key customers and influencers within market.

    Relationship with Other Jobs:

    • Work closely with other Greater Edmonton Area and Western Canada Pipe Sales Managers, Technical/QC Managers, Operations Managers, Credit Managers, and General Managers.
    • Coordinate with other product line personnel to ensure effective customer and market coordination while optimizing vertical integration.

    Qualifications

    Education: 

    • A post-secondary education is required preferably in engineering or business.  Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.   
    • P. Eng or CET designation would be beneficial.
    • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant construction materials experience.
    • Demonstrated sales leadership experience would be considered an asset.
