    Overview

    Effective management of Quality Control and Quality Processes to ensure product performance, product cost management and customer satisfaction

    Responsibilities

    Safety:

    • Implementation of Lafarge Safety Policies, and Compliance with Government Legislation
    • Training and Orientation of all Direct and Departmental Staff
    • Completion of Job Hazard Analyses for QC Job Functions
    • Development and Implementation of Safety Improvement Plans

     

    Concrete Mix Management and Performance:

    • Development, Management and Optimization of Lafarge Standard and VAP Mix Designs, including Agilia, Agilia Screed, Artevia, Chronolia and Hydromedia, in compliance with relevant codes, standards and specifications
    • Work with plant operations to ensure accurate batching and quality using tools such as batch accuracy reports, Standard Deviation and Coefficient of Variation
    • Establish, monitor and communicate RMX KPI performance with key stakeholders as required – investigate variances from Plan and establish corrective actions as required
    • Manage and lead Quality incident Investigation process, troubleshooting and corrective actions.
    • Preparation and submission of LEED documentation
    • Launch Centralized contract review process with Regional Quality Performance team to review of all Project Specifications; Recommendation of Appropriate Mix Designs and Proposal of VAP Alternatives in Support of Marketing/Sales Initiatives, and in compliance with relevant codes, standards and specifications
    • Work with Regional Quality Performance teams for preparation and submission of Mix Design Documentation requested by Customers in Accordance with Lafarge Policy
    • Work with Regional Quality Performance teams for Item Uploads, including the Required Sales Category Codes for Pricing, Production/Shipping and KPI Reporting
    • Support and implement strategies for long product utilization, blended sand products, Aggneo and other alternative raw material at RMX plants.

     

     

    Cement and Technical Support:

    • Support cement team on troubleshooting and corrective actions to resolve cement technical issues.
    • Supports the knowledge of product performance of Lafarge and competitive cementitious products.
    • Supports long-term product development and performance improvement initiatives
    • Develop, support and lead synergies between cement and RMX to increase GUL utilization and other cement strategies in ECAN.

     

    Technical Support:

    • Perform Quality Audits, Develop Action Plans for Quality Improvement and Monitor Progress of Implementation
    • Prepare Statistical Analyses of Plant Operation Performance, and Lead Investigative Efforts to Identify Root Causes and Implement Corrective Actions
    • Provide Expert Customer Support – Field Sales Support and Quality Incident Investigation and Resolution
    • Develop, Standardize and Implement Quality Plans and Processes
    • Represent Lafarge as Required at Industry/Trade Associations and Technical Committees
    • Promote Lafarge VAP Products to the Specifying Community in partnership with the VAP rep.
    • Identify VAP opportunities, potential innovation and product improvement for customers and job sites.
    • Support development of operation plan, operational practices and review.
    • Benchmark Lafarge material performance vs. competitors to effectively market our products
    • Support mining projects with development of shotcrete mixes including delivery and underground support.

     

    Human Resources

    • Hire, Train and Develop Technical Staff within the Department/Product Lines for Promotion either within or outside QC
    • Create and Initiate Local Succession Planning
    • Manage Daily Activities of Technical Staff (Quality Supervisors, Quality Technicians) – Monitoring of Raw Materials and Consistency, Strategic Sampling Plans, Plant and Site Based Testing Activities, Product Support, Product Troubleshooting
    • Develop and Implement product performance Training for Sales and Operations staff
    • Additional training for internal and external customers as required

     

    Financial Accountability

    • Prepare and manage annual Budget and participate in monthly review process
    • Jointly with Regional Quality Performance Team development of RMX Mix Optimization process with monthly tracking and reporting
    • Implement and track quality incidents and cost of non quality
    • Represent Lafarge in appropriate industry organizations and Quality Standards Committees

     

    Lobby /Representation

    • Develop and Maintain effective relationships within the community
    • Represented Lafarge on industry decision making bodies such as the CSA, and RMCAO.

     

     

    Relationships with Other Jobs: Liaison with Operational, Sales and VAP Staff

    • Establishment of Product Performance Goals and Objectives ensuring alignment across functions
    • Develop yearly quality plan, to include material optimization targets, product development and long term product plans
    • Maximize utilization of Long and alternative Aggregate products in RMIX
    • Root Cause Analysis and Reporting of Product Quality Incidents
    • Operational Batching Consistency
    • Target vs. Actual reviews
    • Moisture probe usage and Moisture Compensation
    • VAP product consulting, Mix Design
    • Troubleshooting/Customer Service

     

    Liaison with Regional QA, Development, Marketing and Manufacturing Groups

    • Quality Safety Initiatives
    • Development and Implementation of Quality Strategies
    • Mix Design Optimization
    • Liaise with Regional Quality Performance teams
    • Support and Implement Cement and Aggregate strategies for RMIX
    • New Product Innovation
    • Innovation Product Launches
    • Succession Planning
    • VAP Mix Design, Implementation and Launch

     

     

    Dimensions:

    • This position currently has 2 direct reports overseeing a staff of 5
    • Up to 60% travel within Eastern Canada
    • 17 Sites, 220K m3/year
    • $48M Revenue

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 3 year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology with 10 years of related experience, CET Designation
    • University Degree in Engineering preferred with 8 years related experience, P. Eng. License
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
    • Excellent people management skills; ability to develop effective internal and external relations
    • Disciplined and process-oriented
    • Strong computer skills and ability to quickly learn and use new software
    • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
    • Self motivated
