    The primary objective is to reduce / eliminate environmental liability by ensuring all plants within the assigned market area are operating with the requirements of the law.  In addition, the Environment & Process Coordinator works with various other departments to identify and develop long-term improvements as well as working with the technical centers to ensure that the Lafarge technical doctrines are implemented at the plant level.


    • To serve as a role model in the areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.
    • Set environmental department long, medium and short term goals and objectives in line with market objectives
    • Ensure regulatory compliance of environmental activities and use of alternative fuels and secondary raw materials
    • Assure the interface with environmental auditors and controlling bodies and implement requested improvements
    • Develop, circulate and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to control the impacts of plant activity on the environment
    • Identify environmental hazards and propose preventative measures
    • Develop and update an emergency and communication plan in the event of an environmental incident
    • Implement the means needed to minimize, recycle and treat waste generated by the plant
    • Seek ways to improve the sites environmental performances and make proposals to management
    • Ensure work site activities are in compliance with site permits, approvals and applicable environmental legislation
    • Support the project by ensuring the complete compliance with all applicable environmental laws and standards; environmental permits, licenses and approvals; environmental contractual obligations; environmental plans; policy and best management practices requirements
    • Assist with the monitoring environmental aspects excavated materials management; erosion and sediment control; dust control; spills prevention and spills response; archaeological discoveries; protection of cultural heritage resources; and sustainability plan objectives
    • Monitor permits, licenses and approval requirements/conditions implementation; identify environmental concerns and issues





    • Analysis the environmental impacts of plant operations and ensures that adequate plans are in place to minimize them.
    • Checks that all environmental regulations that apply to plant operations are known, understood, and programs in place to meet them
    • Implements/maintains and develops the environmental management system
    • Manages communication and relations with local stakeholders
    • Ensure adoption and adherence to Lafarge standards, norms and best practices
    • Propose the environmental related roles and responsibilities of all plant management levels and the corresponding skills required
    • Monitor and control noise level emissions, including emissions into the soil
    • Check that all primary corrective measures (calibration, seals etc.) are implemented
    • Contribute to quarry rehabilitation
    • Maintain an orderly filing system that contains all environmental data, permits and regulatory requirements
    • Develop and communicate a summary of national and local regulatory requirements applicable to the plant
    • Perform regular variance analysis on priority key environmental indicators and propose corrective actions


    Education and Work Experience:


    Mandatory skills:

    • University Degree in Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering or other relevant areas of study
    • 1-2 years of experience in environmental management/ Process Management
    • Good understanding of the ISO and related series of standards
    • Understanding of cement manufacturing process
    • Proficient in the use of computers, operating systems and word processing programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, MSProject)
    • The ability to multi-task and work well under pressure to meet stringent time constraints
