    Overview

    • This is a Canada Wide position that can be based out of either Toronto or Calgary
    • This senior level, strategic role will be responsible for delivering optimal cost and efficiencies to improve profitability and leverage size, volumes and innovation with suppliers, through know how, strong expertise and credibility in the Category.
    • Key priority is to manage supplier relationships to drive performance improvement and meet business expectations.
    • Drive and be accountable for Category performance and initiatives in Canada.
    • Participate in Regional or Global Category management teams representing the business needs in Canada.

    Responsibilities

    • Participate in the management of the Mining Category for the LafargeHolcim group by representing Canada in cross-functional teams with full accountability for Category performance.
    • Develop Procurement Category strategies as a member of the Category management team that is integrated and aligned with overall Global strategies, and with the LafargeHolcim business.
    • Drive the realization of savings, supply efficiency, quality, and process improvements in Canada and other Countries, in line with Regional and Global strategies.
    • Identify saving opportunities and initiate individual projects and initiatives for the Mining Category at all operational levels in Canada.

    Tasks:

    • Participate in Americas Regional and Global Category teams to ensure the successful implementation of strategy and achievement of targets and results.
    • Represent Canada as a member of the Regional or Global Category teams (participation level determined by Country spend) to establish strategies and initiatives.
    • Drive initiatives and projects, identify and remove potential barriers to success. 
    • Ensure that country strategies are integrated and in alignment with the Americas Regional and Global Category approach and LafargeHolcim stakeholders. 
    • Align stakeholders through focused change management programs.
    • Align with Americas Regional and Global strategies & design, and execute strategic projects and targets.
    • Ensure the implementation and tracking of performance indicators, and achieved results.
    • Assume full accountability for delivering targeted bottom line results for each Category.
    • Provide regular reports and updates to Local, Regional and/or Global governing bodies (councils) as required.
    • Ensure that Canada executes the Category strategy and actions as required and agreed. Where compliance is an issue, find and eliminate root causes.
    • Initiating and supporting the RFx or negotiations processes locally as defined by strategy.
    • Ensure that Procurement initiatives are documented in any Regional and/or Global tool and kept up-to-date for own initiatives and projects.

     

    Relationship with Other Jobs:

    Internal:

    • Global Procurement – participates in Global & Regional Category Management initiatives
    • Manufacturing – directly manages all Category interfaces from requirements and Budget development to new product qualification and problem solving
    • Finance – provides Budget and market trend information & coordinate regarding financing strategies
    • Legal – coordinates all commercial activity to ensure compliance with all requirements
    • Executive Team – present and defend project initiatives, acquire contract approval based on internal signature authority
    • Canada Operational Procurement Team – sets strategies and guidelines which can be implemented by Local Procurement when necessary
    • Quarry Operations ACM and CE
    • Equipment Managers
    • Procurement Director – Production Services 

    External:

    • Suppliers.
    • Mining Industry.

    Qualifications

    Education: 

    • University Degree in Engineering (ideally mining) or Business.

     

    Experience and Skill Set:

    • Strategic procurement experience (negotiations, category management, sourcing, supplier relationship management, project management) with exposure to supply chain management, CapEx projects, complex strategic sourcing and optimal procurement processes and standards.
    • Demonstrated performance in working within cross-functional teams.
    • Experience working across two geographies with proven results.
    • Leveraging of telemetry in procurement decisions.
    • Engage with suppliers to develop performance improvement plans.
    • Can provide examples of game changing procurement levers to reduce costs.

    Technical/Functional Skills:

    • Technical credibility to challenge/influence internal stakeholders and has a strong understanding of the spend categories and cost drivers to challenge suppliers.
    • Demonstrated broad understanding of the content, processes and delivery channels in the field of the assigned Category, with sufficient knowledge in Category to challenge and drive change and innovation.
    • Ability to deal with ambiguities, conflicts and adversarial relationships.
    • Proven ability to assess potential and risks associated with supplier and market changes, and integrate with Category and sourcing strategies.
    • Proven ability in analysis and interpretation of data.
    • Proven ability to identify problems quickly, make sound judgments, establish and implement solution.
    • Ability to develop models to track performance and total cost of ownership (financial modeling, benchmarking of costs, and other).

    Leadership & Managerial Competencies:

    • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively/convincingly at all levels (including technical and operational) and with all functions at least in English.
    • Expert negotiation skills.
    • Highly effective time management, planning and organization skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and drive tasks to completion in a fixed time-frame and in a pressured environment.
    • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and build relationships across multiple functions, countries, regions and cultures.
    • Demonstrated broad understanding of the content, processes and delivery channels in the field of the assigned categories.
    • Ability to deal with ambiguities, conflicts and adversarial relationships.
    • Ability to assess potential and risks associated with supplier and market changes, and integrate with Category and sourcing strategies.
    • Proven ability in analysis and interpretation of data.
    • Proven ability to identify problems quickly, make sound judgments, establish and implement solutions.
