    The role of the Energy Manager is to facilitate energy conservation (electrical) by identifying and implementing opportunities, leading awareness programs, monitoring energy consumption, and administering various Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) programs. The Energy Manager will play a critical role in the successful implementation of energy conservation and demand management programs at the Cement Plant.


    • Ensure the safe and effective implementation of electrical efficiency.
    • Co-ordinate with all other departments, production, maintenance, etc. to assess and understand electricity consumption at the Cement Plant including the quarry operations
    • Identify electricity consumption reduction initiatives at the Site and prepare detailed costs analysis reports for each energy consumption opportunity.
    • Manage and execute all energy consumption projects that are approved by their supervisor
    • Continuously track energy consumption at the plant to ensure theoretical energy savings are being recognized.
    • Coordinate scheduling with Maintenance and Production
    • Manage employee energy awareness programs
    • Identify other IESO initiatives and assist or manage any that are suitable for the Cement Plant
    • Personally prepare data and reports to meet IESO program application requirements and follow up with any questions / comments from the IESO as the application is being processed.
    • Identify a minimum of 2,000 MWh in annual savings
    • Minimum 10% of annual savings target attributed to Projects not financed by IESO incentives (non-incented)
    • Prepare and submit quarterly reports to IESO and Lafarge on the quarter’s activities
    • Prepare an energy management plan no later than 6 months after start date
    • Attend training and information sessions hosted by IESO as required


    Specific Accountabilities:

    • Provide a safe working environment for all employees.
    • Foster the successful development of teamwork in the plant teams.
    • Ensure that electrical activities comply with all legislated regulations and corporate policies.
    • Promote good relations and communication between the electrical maintenance and all other departments.
    • Promote good plant moral, housekeeping, and safe working conditions.
    • Ensure productivity, housekeeping and quality of work standards are maintained within the electrical maintenance department.
    • Achieve personal and departmental goals.


    • Must be professionally designated as a certified engineering technician or technologist, Certified Energy Manager, or a licensed professional engineer in the province of Ontario
    • 5 - 10 years’ experience in energy efficiency through heavy industries, preferably cement
    • Strong background in commercial, institutional or industrial energy use, as applicable, and energy management.
    • Familiar with IESO trainings and processes.
    • Required to complete the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification within the first year.
    • Extensive experience in heavy equipment operation
    • Proven experience in scheduling major work including during plant shutdowns using computer software (MS Project, Maximo and SAP).
    • Knowledge of Industrial Controls – DCS (Bailey & iFIX), PLC, VFD’s, Analyzers, and Weight scales etc.
    • Knowledge is assessing fans, pumps, mills, lighting, and other major electricity consuming operations.
    • Knowledge of problem solving techniques (Statistical Process Control, Root Cause Failure Analysis, etc.)
    • Strong computer skills.
    • Strong communicator (both oral & written).
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant personnel.
    • Highly motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Demonstrated commitment to achieving organizational and personal goals.
    • Proven ability to work well in a team environment (co-workers, suppliers, etc.)
    • Well organized and systematic.
