    Overview

    This position is responsible for leading and managing the accounting policy leadership role to LafargeHolcim North American Business Services and its related businesses in Canada and US. The successful candidate will own the maintenance the LHARP (LafargeHolcim Accounting & Reporting Policies) program within all relevant companies, acting as the LHarpist and coordinating all upgrades to accounting and reporting policies and systems. The Manager, Audit Compliance and Financial Projects will also manage the group and statutory financial reporting audits and will be responsible for leading the preparation of statutory financial statements. The candidate will also lead and manage complex accounting treatments and complex accounting areas, including but not limited to pension accounting, impairment of assets and acquisition accounting. Finally, the candidate will engage in discussions with senior Business team members, such as the Finance Directors and CFOs, in order to resolve predetermined and ad-hoc requirements.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage the annual external group and statutory financial statement audits and quarterly reviews.
    • Directly liaise with key and senior Business Finance community and the auditors to resolve issues and concerns.
    • Manage the preparation of legal entity financial statement and notes disclosures.
    • Manage LHARP Audits and resolution of accounting and reporting issues.
    • Lead and manage the implementation of annual LHARP changes in SAP and other reporting systems.
    • Provide training to various stakeholders within the companies on LHARP (Finance, IT, procurement etc).
    • Manage complex accounting areas and determine appropriate accounting treatment for acquisition accounting (i.e. goodwill calculations and create support for audit trail) and other complex accounting scenarios.
    • Manage the process of researching technical accounting issues.
    • Provide accounting policy leadership in accordance with IFRS.
    • Manage the corporate accounting of North American Business Services and be responsible for providing planning and analysis guidance.
    • Moderate travel required (up to 30%).

     

    Key Competencies

    • Strong and demonstrated understanding of IFRS Accounting Principles including internal controls.
    • Strong communication skills in addition to the ability to be influential are critical skills to support business in interpreting accounting treatment across all entities.
    • Systems knowledge and interest are important to effectively utilize/leverage the SAP system.
    • Being a self-starter and initiative is a key attribute to recognize problems/issues and propose resolutions.
    • Strong team player with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
    • Ability to manage multiple team members in accomplishing set tasks.
    • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.
    • Effective written and oral communication skills.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in business with a major in Accounting.
    • CPA designation with a minimum of 6 years of post-designation experience in a Big 4 audit firm environment.
    • Experience of accounting within the manufacturing, construction & mining industries would be an asset.
    • Excellent IFRS reporting experience.
    • Proficient in using SAP accounting modules.
    • Project management experience required.
    • Proficient in using MS Office applications with moderate level of skills in Excel.
