    Overview

    Effective management of Product Quality Control and Quality Processes to ensure product performance, product cost management, effective reserve utilization and customer satisfaction

    Responsibilities

    Safety:

     

    • Implementation of Lafarge Safety Policies, and Compliance with Government Legislation
    • Lead the implementation of  Job Hazard Analyses for QC Tasks, Develop and Lead the Implementation of Hazard Reduction Plans
    • Execution and implementation of Lab/QC Safety Improvement Plans
    • Coordinate relevant Safety Training for all Technicians supervised

     

    Concrete Mix Management and Performance:

     

    • Support the Development, Management and Optimization of Lafarge Standard and VAP Mix Designs, including Agilia, Agilia Screed, Artevia, Chronolia and Hydromedia, in compliance with relevant codes, standards and specifications
    • Work with plant operations to ensure accurate batching and quality using tools such as batch accuracy reports, Standard Deviation and Coefficient of Variation
    • Implement Lafarge Quality Program, including conducting sampling, testing, reporting and follow up for all products as determined for each site of responsibility
    • Implement programs and processes to ensure compliance of all products with relevant Codes, Standards, and Specifications
    • RMX KPI -  investigate variances from Plan and establish corrective actions as required
    • Manage, lead and support quality incident Investigation process, troubleshooting and corrective actions.
    • Support the Preparation and submission of LEED documentation
    • Support Regional Quality Performance team to review Specifications; Recommendation of Appropriate Mix Designs and Proposal of VAP Alternatives in Support of Marketing/Sales Initiatives, and in compliance with relevant codes, standards and specifications
    • Support Regional Quality Performance teams for preparation and submission of Mix Design Documentation requested by Customers in Accordance with Lafarge Policy
    • Work with Regional Quality Performance teams for Item Uploads, including the Required Sales Category Codes for Pricing, Production and KPI Reporting.
    • Support and implement strategies for long product utilization, blended sand products, Aggneo and other alternative raw material at RMIX plants.
    • Test and monitor aggregate quality for the area and provide monthly reports to quality control team
    • Participate in QC Planning & Activities
    • Perform concrete lab trials for new mixes and/or products

     

    Aggregate Product Performance:

     

    • Develop, Modify and Implement programs and processes to ensure compliance of all products with relevant Codes, Standards, and Specifications
    • Lead to localized implementation of the Lafarge Quality Program, including sampling, testing, reporting and follow up for all products as determined for each site of responsibility
    • Ensure the Recording , Monitoring and Communication of Aggregate KPI performance with key stakeholders as required – investigate variances from Plan with Material Performance Technicians and establish corrective actions with Operations as required
    • Lead the development and implementation of site specific actions to reduce and/or utilize long products, including innovating new combination materials

     

    Technical Support:

     

    • Participate in or Lead Quality Audits, including the development and implementation of Action Plans for Quality Improvement
    • Prepare Statistical Analyses of Plant Operation Performance, and Lead Investigative Efforts to Identify Root Causes and Implement Corrective Actions
    • Lead plant certifications preparation and audits
    • Provide Expert Customer Support – Field Sales Support and Quality Incident Investigation and Resolution as required
    • Liaise with customers to ensure acceptable product performance, and acquire knowledge for potential innovation and product improvement
    • Promote Lafarge VAP Products to customers in partnership with the sales rep.
    • Participate and/or Deliver Technical training to Technicians, Sales, Operations, Logistics and customer training to understand the value of Lafarge RMIX, leverages technical expertise across the Market Areas to drive value for our customers and Lafarge
    • Provide technical expertise to operations regarding Mining Plan development and Execution
    • Support development of operation plan, operational practices and review.
    • Support product development, utilizing new and or innovative products and project specification review before the quoting or bidding process.

     

    Human Resources:

     

    • Hire, train, evaluate and develop QC Technicians for Sites of Responsibility
    • Coach and mentor direct reports in accordance with Lafarge Performance Evaluation system
    • Manage daily activities of technical staff (Quality Technicians) – Monitoring of Raw Materials and Consistency, Strategic Sampling Plans, Plant and Site Based Testing Activities, Product Support, Product Troubleshooting

     

    Financial Accountability

     

    • Manage local budgets and Financial Reviews as required
    • Minimize potential Cost of Quality Claims
    • Ensure efficient utilization of resources provided, and optimize costs where practical and possible
    • Prepare and maintain monthly material and cost reports

    Relationships with Other Jobs:

     

    Liaison with Operational and Sales Staff

     

    • Communication of product performance and identification of improvement opportunities
    • Implement and Support yearly quality plan, to include material optimization targets, product development and long term product plans
    • Maximize utilization of Long and alternative Aggregate  Products in RMIX
    • Root Cause Analysis and Reporting of Product Quality Incidents
    • Operational Batching Consistency
    • Target vs. Actual reviews
    • Moisture probe usage and Moisture Compensation
    • Mining Plan Development and Implementation
    • VAP product consulting, Mix Design
    • Troubleshooting/Customer Service

     

    Liaison with Regional and Market Area QC, Safety and Operations

     

    • Quality Safety Initiatives
    • Implementation of Quality Program
    • Support and Implement Cement and Aggregate strategies for RMIX
    • Product Launches
    • VAP and New Product Implementation and Launch
    • Mix Optimization

     

    Dimensions:

     

    • This position currently has 2 direct reports
    • Up to 40% travel within Eastern Canada
    • 17 Sites, 220K m3/year
    • $48M Revenue

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 3 year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology with 4 years of related experience, CET Designation
    • University Degree in Engineering preferred with 2 years related experience, Eligible for P. Eng. License
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
    • Excellent people management skills; ability to develop effective internal and external relations
    • Disciplined and process-oriented
    • Strong computer skills and ability to quickly learn and use new software
    • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
    • Self motivated
