    Overview

    Wage: $30.63 - $32.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

     

    Position Description:

    The Sidewalk Concrete Finisher will be performing patchwork of existing curbs and gutters as well as sidewalks within the city of Edmonton. The accountabilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

    Responsibilities

    • Preparing granular base.
    • Setting formwork according to specifications.
    • Applying steel reinforcements as necessary.
    • Checking formwork to ensure accuracy.
    • Operating power vibrators to consolidate concrete.
    • Leveling top surface concrete according to grade and depth specifications.
    • Finishing concrete to meet specifications using hand and power tools.
    • Applying hardening and sealing components to cure surfaces.
    • Other labour duties as required.

    Qualifications

    Education: Not required

     

    Experience: 3 years of relevant experience

     

    Languages:  English

     

    Additional Skills: Road construction

     

    Work Setting: Sidewalks and curbs; Roads and bridges

     

    Specific Skills: Waterproof, damp proof and restore surfaces; Repair, resurface and replace worn or damaged sections of concrete structures; Operate power vibrators to compact concrete; Level top surface concrete according to grade and depth specification; Fill hollows and remove spots on freshly poured cement; Apply hardening and sealing components to cure surfaces; Check formwork, granular base and steel reinforcement materials and direct placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces according to grade; Impart desired finish to concrete surfaces using hand and power tools

     

    Own Tools/Equipment: Steel-toed safety boots

     

    Work Site Environment: Outdoors; Dusty

     

    Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Handling heavy loads; Physically demanding; Attention to detail; Standing for extended periods; Bending, crouching, kneeling

    Type of Materials: Reinforcing membrane and protective covering; Hardners and epoxies; Colours and sealers
