Position Summary: This is a one year contract position, subject to renewal after one year.
The Laboratory Technician's prime objectives are to carry out testing of cement, slag, fly ash, and other cementitious materials manufactured and/or marketed by Lafarge as well as promote and market these materials by employing technical assistance and knowledge of them.
The tests executed at the Ville St-Laurent Laboratory involve but are not limited to: fresh and hardened concrete, cementitious materials mine backfill, soils, grouts, concrete pavement and aggregates.
The incumbent also assists in the maintenance of the laboratory buildings and property. He or She must be familiar with standard repair techniques and proper routine maintenance procedures for the various pieces of laboratory equipment. Innovation regarding equipment and procedures is an important part of this position.
Technical degree or diploma, preferably in the civil, construction, mining, or materials discipline.
ACI certified (preferred).
Experience in cement, concrete, mine backfill, materials engineering or a process industry.
Industry exposure to quality control or materials testing, testing experience as related to CSA, MTO and ASTM.
Basic knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with computer systems;
Must be able to work well as part of a team and also independently;
Able to perform a variety of tasks, including moderate lifting.
