Improve the efficiency and productivity of maintenance own personnel and third party maintenance services through good planning, follow up and optimization of all preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.  The objective is to achieve the set targets for equipment net availability at the lowest optimum and sustainable maintenance cost, in collaboration with all involved departments, following the maintenance guidelines


  1. Safety: Guarantee compliance with OH&S and environment policies for Maintenance personnel. Establish safety culture and tackle specific actions to ensure health and safety prevention during maintenance activities. Contribute to plant housekeeping and cleanliness. Serve as a role model in the areas of safety, environmental stewardship, leadership, teamwork, customer focus, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.
  1. Environmental Considerations: In consultation with the Environmental Manager, ensure that all regulatory requirements associated with the carrying out of operational duties are completed as required by the relevant regulation, certificate, or permit.
  1. Maintenance Planning: Planning and scheduling of all corrective and preventive maintenance routines in SAP PM / DMS together with the specific execution responsibly. Generation and optimization of the 52 week workload balancing sheet by department / specialty / technique, targeting a good balance during the days of the year. Generates the detailed weekly and daily plans as well as the 13 week basic plan. Prioritizes the notifications coming from condition monitoring or others and generates corrective work orders in agreement with the requestor.
  1. Shutdown Planning: Leads the preparation and consolidation of the shutdown plan (personal, third party services, materials, spare parts, equipment, tools, time, and critical path) for all departments with coordination meetings using Lafarge planning guidelines and tools. Monitors the realization of the maintenance plans and follow-up tasks defined in major shutdowns on a daily frequency. Plans all outage work orders by assigning the required parts, tools, procedures, drawings, and outside resources to the work.

  2. Goal Setting: Assists in setting department objectives and in the development and execution of the annual maintenance budget. Writes detailed scopes of work for all major work, including shutdown activities. Tracks maintenance costs daily and parts cost for all major projects and shutdowns.
  1. Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Ensure the tracking of performance indicators and achieved results. Provide regular reports and updates to the plant, local/regional bodies as required. Coordinates meetings with suppliers to stay updated on new tools and techniques available to optimize/facilitate the job execution. Leads After Action Review (AAR) for shutdown or major shutdowns.


Relationship with Others:


  • Reports to the Maintenance Manager
  • Supervises the Maintenance Planner
  • Supervises/Coordinates contractors and laborers to perform specific tasks
  • Works with Electrical Coordinator; Production Managers and Supervisors; Process/Quality department; and Projects team


Specific Accountabilities:


  • Weekly planning activities for labour groups including: Mechanical, Electrical, Mobile and the Preventative Maintenance team are the responsibility of the Lead Planner.
  • Shutdown planning is the for all labour groups including: Production, Yard, Mechanical, Electrical, Mobile and the Preventative Maintenance team are the responsibility of the Lead Planner for daily activities.
    • STO – Outage S-Curve creation and project progress tracking
    • STO – Outage cost tracking on a daily basis
  • Works with procurement to optimize BCC material sourcing and reduce maintenance costs
  • Plans, reviews and optimizes SAP PM and DMS including all the PM01 corrective and PM02 preventive routines establishing tasks, frequencies and workload balancing.
  • Optimizes and distribute the workload in a 52 week span
  • Schedules weekly and daily maintenance work, 13 weeks out and for major outages
  • Consolidates the details of major repairs. Leads the major shutdown meetings and AAR
  • Prioritizes and generates preventive and corrective maintenance orders based on the results of equipment monitoring. Prioritizes with other departments preventive and corrective maintenance orders
  • Revises notifications, workload, defines the needs of third party services. Tracks the purchase requests and services of major shutdown/repairs and ensures their on-time arrival
  • Generates and enters follow up purchase requests for materials, spare and wear parts, ensuring just in time delivery and optimization of Net Working Capital (NWC)
  • Completes good quality reports and spends appropriate time in the field to monitor safety and performance of plant mechanics and Contractors.

  • Participates in the plant “On-Call” system




ECAN, Bath Maintenance Budget is approximately $13M per annum.


Education and Work Experience:

  • Mechanical Engineering Technologist, or equivalent field experience
  • Minimum of 5+ years of extensive experience in heavy equipment repair; experience in inspection is an asset
  • Proven experience in planning major work and plant shutdowns using computer software
  • Experience with Computerized Mechanical Maintenance System (SAP)


Preferred skills:

  • Knowledge of problem solving techniques (i.e. Pareto Analysis, Root Cause Failure Analysis, etc.)
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong communicator (both oral & written)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant personnel
  • Highly motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrates commitment to achieving organizational and personal goals
  • Has proven ability to work well in a team environment (co-workers, suppliers, etc.)
  • Is well organized and systematic
  • Has Lafarge planner certification
