The Operations Manager manages and leads the operational workforce of the plant.  Is responsible for driving forward business processes like planning and scheduling, equipment performance improvement, employee supervision & accountability, implementing field safety program adherence.  Accountable for the safe and efficient operations of the plant’s raw material inbounding, milling, blending, and shipping processes. This position is responsible for ensuring quality standards are met for every service and product sold or shipped by the Lafarge Seattle plant.  This is a high level position intended to act as a strong backup to the Plant Manager.


  • Oversight of Shipping, milling, non-traditional business, and mechanical/electrical maintenance activities
  • Oversees around the clock supervision of operators, temporary workers and contractors to meet the needs of customers as well as satisfy all quality, safety and environmental requirements.

  • A trusted partner in decision making and planning both inside the plant and with the greater Western Canada cement organization.
  • Oversee and optimize the business cycle (daily, weekly & monthly -)
    • Development and communication of shipping and production equipment schedules in order to ensure customer satisfaction and inventory objectives are met
    • Participate in cement barge planning to ensure efficient loading and offloading
    • Work with Rail and Logistics Supervisor to manage railcar loading and unloading to ensure customer and terminal needs are met efficiently
    • Ensures the development and communication of employee and contractor work schedules
    • Ensures the  inventory management of  finished goods, raw materials and critical spares.
    • Change management to ensure smooth and efficient operation
    • Assist in development of department budgets and monitor performance
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by maintaining good relationships and regular communications with customers, truckers and Lafarge sales people.
  • Oversees, and individually capable of planning, managing and supervising all aspects of a slag ship port calls.

  • Reports to the Plant Manager
  • Direct Reports: Plant Coordinator, Maintenance Supervisor, Production Supervisor, Non-Traditional Business Supervisor
  • Indirect Reports: 27 to 37 Employees
  • Sales: Participates in non traditional business development & sales



  • Minimum of 10 years Technical Degree, College Degree or equivalent (or exceptionally 10 years of relevant work experience)

  • Minimum 2 years’ operating experience in cement industry or comparable industry in capacity of supervisory or above
  • Must have a working knowledge of both OSHA  & Lafarge safety standards and policies
  • Computer Skills in Google Apps, SAP, PPW and trending packages and HMI’s.
  • Must possess process, mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Good troubleshooting skills
  • Must have an understanding of Collective Bargaining Agreements and management’s rights with regards to the labor force.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with other departments to ensure continued safe operation of all facets of the Lafarge Seattle plant.
  • Must have working knowledge of  ship, barge, rail and bulk truck operations
